I've been testing out the Cloud OCR SDK using a trial account for the past two weeks, and have randomly run into multiple errors like the below. It works most of the time however. We're using the iOS library, with 2-3 megabyte images captured by the phone's camera.

What would the process be for figuring out the root cause? Until this is resolved we will not be able to commit to purchasing service. Thanks!

Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1001 "The request timed out." UserInfo=0x94e1670 {NSErrorFailingURLStringKey=http://cloud.ocrsdk.com/processImage?language=English&exportFormat=txt, NSErrorFailingURLKey=http://cloud.ocrsdk.com/processImage?language=English&exportFormat=txt, NSLocalizedDescription=The request timed out., NSUnderlyingError=0xf7805a0 "The request timed out."}

UPD: Your recommended timeout of almost 17 minutes (1000 seconds) is beyond any reasonable amount. The default iOS timeout is 60 seconds, which is already a very long time for our use case. What is the average time it takes the Cloud OCR API to return a response, and the typical worst-case times? I understand OCR is computationally intensive and can take some time, but we really need information on the behavior so we can build our app accordingly.

We have found the trial API randomly does not work for extended periods of time (hours and hours). Is this how reliable the paid service is? Can you provide any uptime statistics for the service? When it works, your OCR quality is very high, which we love, but we cannot purchase a service with uptime inconsistency. Many on this forum have had random timeout issues, so it is of great concern.

Thank you for your help!

We recommend to increase the timeout in your code.

The average time of the recognition of one A4 page in English is 7 seconds. The worst case is several tens of seconds - when CJK text of low quality is recognized.

There were no so long server delays during the last months. Firstly, please try to use latest iOS sample code. If the issue still occurs, to investigate the issue we need some additional information:

  • your Application ID,
  • the exact time of the error.
