We are currently developing an app with text recognition using ABBYY RTR. For now horizontal texts are well recognized so that's a good thing, but we also have some cases where we will need to recognize vertical texts with latin characters and there ABBYY is not working at all, not even a letter is returned. Is there any setting we can change to enable vertical reading of latin characters or it is not possible at all?

Recognition of vertical writing direction for the European languages is not supported at the current version of the product. However, we plan to support this feature in future releases.

Many thanks for your feedback. Do you have any roadmap for this feature?

I have checked this with our analyst, and unfortunately, there is no estimated date for supporting vertical text so far.

Could you please describe your usage scenario in more details? In what cases do you need to extract a vertical text?

And if you know for sure where the vertical text is, you can try to recognize a rotated image as a workaround.
