Too high text-bacground contrast leading to letter loss

I've got a scanned document. The quality is good. all the letter's details are clearly vissible. Sometimes there is some dithering noise on the sides of the page.

However when I try to recognize it with ABBYY and when it shows the "Training window" what I can see is that all the details have been lost and some letters are barely recognizable. It loks like at the base image processing a filter has been added enchancing the letter to bacground contrast and this filter is set to too high values wiping out some (not so black) letter details.

So the question is how TO DECREASE the intensity of this filter or turn it off???
