Does ABBYY (especially FineReader Engine) support Cantonese and/or Mandarin? I only can find Chinese Simplified (PRC) and Chinese Traditional (Taiwan) in the documentation.

Hello,

Thanks for your very interesting question.
Please see this article for the explanation of the differences of Mandarin, Cantonese, Traditional Chinese and Modernized Chinese: https://www.vengaglobal.com/blog/simplified-traditional-chinese-mandarin-cantonese/

Both Mandarin and Cantonese are spoken forms of Chinese, whereas Traditional and Modernized Chinese are written forms. (BTW, the beauty of Chinese is that different spoken forms or dialects are still using the same written from. Therefore Chinese people who do not understand each other while speaking can still communicate in writing. Therefore sometimes you see two Chinese people writing signs with their fingers on tables or in the air.)

The good news for the users of ABBYY is that in most of our products (and in FineReader Engine, of course) we support both written forms of Chinese.
